LANVIN NAMES BOUCHRA JARRAR AS NEW ARTISTIC DIRECTOR
Lanvin names Bouchra Jarrar as new artistic director
Four months after Alber Elbaz’s departure, the house confirms his successor
Lanvin has announced that Cannes-born couturier Bouchra Jarrar will be succeeding Alber Elbaz as its new artistic director. According to WWD, Jarrar will assume her role on Monday and present her first collection during the SS17 show season in September.“Joining Lanvin satisfies my desire to create and express myself in a space of larger expression,” Jarrar said in a statement, in which she also stated her intention to “bring to Lanvin the harmony and consistency of a fashion designed for women, a fashion of our time.”
“Her timeless style is in keeping with the style and values of our company,” says Lanvin’s CEO Michèle Huiban. “Her talent, her high standards and her mastery of cuts and fabrics will bring a breath of freshness and modernity into the house, while respecting its soul as the oldest Paris couture house, a symbol of French elegance.”
Lauded for her razor-sharp tailoring, Jarrar currently sits at the helm of her own eponymous couture house, which presents its collections at Paris’s Couture Fashion Week. She’s previously worked as studio director at Balenciaga (during Nicolas Ghesquière’s tenure) and as head of couture design for Christian Lacroix.
The announcement comes just a week after Lanvin’s AW16 runway show – its first since Elbaz’s departure – which was not received favourably by critics.

Lanvin ha anunciado que la modisto nacida en Cannes Bouchra Jarrar seguirá sosteniendo el éxito de Alber Elbaz como su nuevo director artístico. Según WWD, Jarrar asumirá su papel el lunes y presentara su primera colección en septiembre en el show SS17.
"Unirme a Lanvin satisface mi deseo de crear y expresarme en un espacio de mayor expresión", dijo Jarrar en un comunicado, en el que también declaró su intención de "llevar a Lanvin la armonía y la consistencia de una forma diseñada para las mujeres, de manera a nuestro tiempo."
"Su estilo atemporal está en mantener con el estilo y los valores de nuestra compañía", dice el CEO de Lanvin Michèle Huiban. "Su talento, sus altos estándares y su dominio de los cortes y telas traerá un soplo de frescura y modernidad en la casa, respetando el alma como una de las casas más antigua de alta costura de París, un símbolo de la elegancia francesa."
Alabado por su confección de gran nitidez, Jarrar actualmente se encuentra a la cabeza de su propia casa de costura del mismo nombre, que presenta sus colecciones en la Semana de la Moda de alta costura de París. Ella trabajó anteriormente como director de estudio en Balenciaga (durante el mandato de Nicolas Ghesquière) y como jefe de diseño de alta costura de Christian Lacroix.
